The Nigerian police command in Edo state have arrested an unidentified man who portrays himself as deaf and dumb and disguised as a woman but involved in stealing babies from unsuspecting mothers at Oba Market of the state.
According to the Nation, a child, Godwin, was reportedly stolen while his mother Mrs. Edith Elawure, who sells second hand clothes, was going about her trade at the market. The suspect was reportedly caught with the baby strapped to his back at a bus terminal by traders who were searching for the missing child. When the suspect was caught, the wig he wore fell off and exposed him to be a man.
The suspect was reported to have lured the little boy with biscuits when his mother was busy with her trade. The man was taken to the Oba market (Central) Police division where he was detained but the mob that gathered insisted on immediate capital punishment.
According to Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Osifo, the suspect also pretended to be a deaf and dumb person. He announced that investigations has commenced into the incident.
