"Why I Collected N2.1billion from Dasuki''- Dokpesi

Following his arrest by the EFCC over N2.1 billion arms scandal, Raymond Dokpesi, who is the founder of Daar Communication, owners of Ray Power radio network and Africa Independent Television, said the money he received from the office of the National Security Adviser during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan was payment for media and political campaign for the 2015 general election.

Mr. Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, had earlier told PREMIUM TIMES his client had written to the EFCC informing the anti-graft body it never did business with the NSA’s office.He said 

“What I know is that the EFCC wrote to Daar Holdings asking for a list of directors and whether it has done any business or contract with the office of the NSA in the past and how much was involved,” the lawyer said in a telephone interview.“We wrote them a reply to say Daar did not do any contract with the office of the NSA and we are ready to give them all the information they need,” he said.

But according to the News magazine, Mr. Dokpesi, in statement released by his company on Wednesday, explained he was invited by the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to “shed more light on some payments that were made to him through the office of the erstwhile National Security Adviser to the former President, Malam Sambo Dasuki”.

“Dokpesi explained to the EFCC officials that the N2.1 billion that he collected from the former NSA was payment for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 General Elections,” the paper quoted the statement as saying.

Mr. Dokpesi “made his statement on the various media exposures and campaign transactions which were dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship”, the statement added.
The statement was however silent on why Mr. Dokpesi received payment for a political media campaign, which ordinarily should have been the prerogative of the Peoples Democratic Party (Mr Jonathan’s party), from the office of the NSA.

Senate Move to Censor Use of Social Media, Scales Second Reading

Yesterday in the senate, a move to censor social media,scaled second reading. The bill which was sponsored by Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah (Kebbi South) is entitled:

 “An Act to prohibit frivolous petitions and other matters connected therewith,”

Well, according to the new bill, anyone found guilty will be imprisoned “for a term of two years or a fine of N200,000”.It also provides a mandatory six-month jail term without an option of fine for any person that unlawfully uses, publishes or cause to be published any petition, or complaint not supported by a sworn affidavit. 
Section 4 of the Bill states:

“Where any person through text message, tweets, WhatsApp or through any social media, post any abusive statement knowing same to be false, with intent to set the public against any person and/or group of persons, an institution of government or such other bodies established by law shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction shall be liable to an imprisonment for two years or a fine of N2 million or both such fine and imprisonment”

Section 3 says:

 “Where any person in order to circumvent this law makes any allegation and or publish any statement, petition in any paper, radio, or any medium of whatever description, with malicious intent to discredit or set the public against any person or group of persons, institutions of government, he shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction shall be liable to an imprisonment term of two years or a fine of N4 million.”

The Bill also seeks to make it unlawful to submit any petition, statement intended to report the conduct of any person for the purpose of an investigation, enquiry and or inquest without a sworn affidavit in the High Court of a state or the Federal High Court confirming the content to be true and correct and in accordance with the Oaths Act.

Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki referred the Bill to the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.The committee was mandated to report back to the Senate in plenary in four weeks.

"We Are Not Responsible For Last Week's Kano Bomb Blast"- Boko Haram

Leader of terrorist group(Boko Haram), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky said last week’s bomb explosion which occurred in Kano killing 24 people during Arba’een symbolic trek, was not carried out by Boko Haram even when it claimed responsibility for the attack.

Spokesperson for the group, Ibrahim Usman in a statement, quoted Zakzaky as saying, 

“we know the names of the contractors and those contracted to commit the massacre; their identity is not hidden from us.Therefore, we cannot be cowed by an imaginary Boko Haram tale; let them tell it to the fools and the ignorant. They should know that they are dealing with those with foresight, wisdom and intelligence, and above all, with the real religion.” 

According to the Daily Sun,The Muslim cleric opined that the attack was manipulated to make the public believe that Boko Haram launched the attack through a suicide bomber, alleging that the media was used to suppress the news of the attack and limit it to a so-called suicide bomber. There was nothing like a suicide bomber. They torture and drug unsuspecting captives and made them carriers of the explosives which they detonated among people”.

Sheikh Zakzaky further alleged that perpetrators of Kano bomb attack were the same people, who seven years ago, in broad daylight, attacked us and killed two people, attacked the Ashura procession, killed people in Potiskum and killed 34 people during Quds Day procession in Zaria in 2014.

US Marine Convicted of Killing a Transgender Woman in Philippine, After Finding Out She Was Born a Man(photos)

On Tuesday, a court in Philippine convicted a U.S. Marine of killing a Filipino early last year after he discovered she was a transgender woman in a hotel in the Philippines while he was on break after 

engaging in joint military exercises in the country.

Hoever, it is claimed that Pemberton did not know she was transgender until arriving at the hotel room.

According to New York Daily News, he first strangled Jennifer Laude and then dunked her head into a toilet bowl in the hotel they had checked into after meeting in a disco bar in Olongapo city, northwest of Manila.

25Years Old Mother Killed by Man She Met on Facebook(photo)

A Woman from Missouri was found dead in her home the same night a Facebook friend(man) visited her apartment for the first time.
Sha-Rae Bradford, 25, was found dead in her apartment in Ferguson on Saturday. Family members say she was lying on her bed in a pool of blood. Her cause of death is unknown.

Stassie Greer, 20, of Jennings has been charged with 1st degree murder, 1st degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action. 
Greer arranged to meet the victim for sex in exchange for money at her apartment, according to the probable cause statement from St. Louis County Police.  There was evidence of a sexual encounter found near the victim's body.

A witness identified Greer as a man entering the victim's apartment in a photo lineup. Surveillance video also shows Greer entering Bradford's apartment complex at around 4:50pm. Video shows Greer, attempting to conceal his appearance, leaving her apartment complex at around 5:30pm.

A relative found 25-year-old Sharae Bradford`s nude body face down at around 6pm on her bed Saturday night in her Versailles apartment. The victim was killed by a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
The  medical examiner also found seminal fluid on swabs applied to many parts of the victim's body.

Investigators from the Major Case Squad have been working on this case. The victim's phone and rent money was missing from her apartment.  A search warrant was conducted at the Greer's house and Bradford's phone was found.
Family members tell FOX 2 that Bradford was an aspiring nurse and mother of a 6-year-old girl. They say they're glad her daughter wasn't home when she was killed

Girlfriend Flees as Lee boo Dies in an Hotel in Lagos

Anxiety eroped at the Jonaith Hotel and Suites in the Ajah area of Lagos State after a 24-year-old guest, identified as Michael Afeso, was found dead in his room.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased’s girlfriend, who had stayed with him on Friday evening, was sighted in the early hours of Saturday.

She was, however, said to have fled the hotel before the arrival of policemen from the Ajah division, who later took the corpse to a mortuary.

Our correspondent gathered that Michael, an indigene of Akoko Edo, Edo State, had checked into a room in the hotel on Friday and had enjoyed some bottles of beer with a friend, identified as Abass

It was learnt that Abass left the deceased in the company with a lady, whom the latter had sent for.

The corpse of the victim was said to have been discovered by one of the hotel workers, who had gone to his room at checkout.

PUNCH Metro learnt from a relative of the deceased, Olufemi Oladejo, that the family was notified by one of Michael’s friends.

Oladejo said, 

“When we got there, the management of the hotel told us they found the girl in their CCTV tip-toeing out.

“When we challenged them on why they did not stop her since they both checked in together, they changed the story and said the video was of another room and that it had nothing to do with the case.

“The hotel management said one Abass, who was their customer, reserved the room for Michael. We were told that they both took some bottles of beer before Abass left. They said Michael was alone in his room before they saw his corpse.”

The victim’s father, Abraham, explained that he was expecting his son to send him some money for upkeep and a project, when he was told he had died.

He said, “My other children who had been aware of the incident could not break the news to me because I was sick. Instead, they informed my friend, who called me to his house and broke the sad news to me.

“The hotel management and the police have been dribbling us and telling us all kinds of lies. Even our lawyer was compromised and he has stopped picking my calls. I insisted that the matter be transferred from Ajah because I lost confidence in the police in that division.”

However, the result of the autopsy indicated that the victim died of heart attack and hypertension.

Still, the family of the deceased insisted that the case had been tampered with and urged the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to conduct investigation into the matter.

The hotel lawyer, Akran Akra, in a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro, denied that the hotel covered up anything.

He said, “There was no time that the hotel changed any story. We gave the police and the deceased’s family unlimited access to our IT rooms on several occasions.

“The girl and the man did not go in together. She came in later as a visitor.

“The fact of the case is that Michael checked into the hotel on the night of Friday, October 23, 2015. The room he checked into had earlier been reserved for him by one of his friends, who checked in earlier the same day.

“His friends, who were with him that night, confirmed that on arrival at the hotel, the deceased joined them at the pool bar where they all had drinks together before retiring to his hotel room to meet his girlfriend, who he was expecting.

“At about 12.15pm the next day, one of the hotel’s housekeepers, who was carrying out a routine clean-up at checkout found the lifeless body of Michael on the bed.”

He said the hotel management immediately alerted the police.

“There was no complicity on the part of the hotel. The food that was served by the chef was not eaten by the deceased. The CCTV footage did not indicate a foul play,” he added.

AIT Boss Raymond Dokpesi Arrested by EFCC over Arms Purchase Scandal and N2.1billion Theft

Yesterday the Economic and financial crimes commision(EFCC) arrested the Chairman of Africa Independent Television, Raymond Dokpesi, over the spreading arms purchase scandal involving the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and the theft of N2.1billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Mr. Dokpesi was arrested shortly after noon, Nigerian time, and taken to the EFCC, where he is now being interrogated. 

EFCC sources told SaharaRerporters that on the instructions of the Mr. Dasuki, CBN paid N2.1billion to the AIT chairman. His arrests comes on the heels of the DSS arrest of Sambo Dasuki over the same arms purchase scandal.

I was prepared for it all!""They don't give you any pain medication, and let me tell you: This was soooooo painful. Probably more painful than childbirth."It worked!!! A Nigerian Celestial Preacher Who Base in the US Accused of Beating,Raping and Robbing Prostitudes

A preacher in the Celestial Church of Christ In Riverdale, USA has been arrested after being accused of beating, robbing and raping escorts in hotels across Washington DC.

Gabriel Omogbo of Hyattsville, Maryland, is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Police believe that the 33-year-old used the website Backpage.com to find female escorts and arranged to meet up with them.

According to WJLA, the first two attacks happened at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Rockville and on both occasions he is accused of raping and stealing from two women he had met online.

A third attack took place at the Radison Hotel in Rockville, where he is accused of threatening a woman with a knife.

He ordered the woman to take off her clothes before reportedly telling her 'You are going to die today.'
He then beat her, cutting her arms, legs and hands and stole her iPad, cell phone and $300.

The woman survived and told police that before he fled the hotel room offered her a glass of water.

He was arrested after police traced CCTV footage from the hotels as well as collecting DNA evidence from each of the rooms.

CCTV footage showed a man matching Omogbo's description wearing blue jeans and brown loafers entering and leaving the hotels at the time of the attacks


Omogbo is now being held at Montgomery County Correction Facility on a no bond status. He will next appear in Court on January 8 and could face life in prison.

According to his Facebook page, he preaches at the Celestial Church of Christ in Riverdale and is a former student at Bowie State University.

Worker Who Loses Eyes, Demand N110million Compensation from NBC

A man named Onuche claimed to have been involved in an industrial accident on May 31, 2013, in the NBC plant in Ikeja, Lagos State, during which he sustained caustic soda burns, rendering him completely blind in both eyes.
He alleged that the injury was due to non-provision of safety wears by the company for its 
employees.

Onuche claimed to be working in the Quality Assurance Department of the NBC as a contract staff member when the accident occurred. He alleged that since May 31, 2013, when the incident happened at the NBC plant in Ikeja, the company had failed to pay him any compensation.

He also accused the NBC of ignoring a letter which he wrote through a lawyer, Ali Abba, demanding his financial compensation so he could urgently go for an eye surgery before he became completely blind.

He further alleged that he was sacked, while his N20,000 monthly salary was stopped because he demanded to be given financial compensation.

According to him, his suit before the industrial court followed a letter dated August 18, 2015, which he wrote to the Directorate of Citizens’ Rights, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, requesting legal representation.
Joined as defendants in the suit are the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited and Coca-Cola Limited.

Onuche is seeking an order, “compelling the defendants to immediately pay the claimant the sum of N100m as insurance claims and compensation for the industrial accident in which he sustained caustic soda burns in both eyes rendering him blind as a result of poor safety procedures during his normal schedule as a contract staff member in the Quality Assurance Department of the defendants.”

The claimant is also seeking “special damages in the sum of N10m on the grounds of trauma and pains of disabilities due to caustic soda burns in both eyes rendering him blind as a result of poor factory safety procedures.”

The defendants have yet to file any reply to the claimant’s suit, PUNCH reports.

Little Girls Breasts Mutilated in Cameroon to "Protect Them" from Boko Haram

 When Grace Tchami started showing signs of puberty at age 9, her mother, hoping to protect her, began to torture her. At about 7 o’clock every morning, her mother would take one of the heavy stone pestles used for grinding food and heat it burning hot over a charcoal fire, then press it on Grace’s breasts, attempting to flatten them.

In a small, bamboo-roofed kitchen behind the house, Grace remembers, Mama performed this procedure day after day for three months. Grace’s older brother would hold her legs so she couldn’t run away. And then, still reeling from the ordeal, Grace would be sent along to elementary school.

I met Grace, who is now 16, in this southern Nigerian town where she had traveled across the Cameroonian border to buy fabric for her mother’s sewing business. She said she is permanently scarred and still suffers from the trauma. She said her mother told her the goal was to make her less desirable to boys, and thus to kill any chance of her getting pregnant early.

Grace became pregnant at the age of 15, but sadly lost her child during childbirth.
She said breast ironing is even more painful than childbirth, and that it did nothing to prevent her from getting pregnant before marriage.

“The whole practice was useless after all..Rather than teach, breast ironing kills. My mother should have taught me sex education, rather she let this evil practice devastate me.

And Grace is not alone. The tradition of “breast ironing” has gone on for years in Cameroon, and appears to be spreading among parents who hope to keep their daughters out of the hands of Boko Haram’s brutal jihadists. Maryam, a Cameroonian hairdresser now based in Ikom, said she had practiced breast ironing on two of her daughters, added that other methods can also be used in the practice

 The process of breast ironing requires the use of any metal, including wooden sticks, pestles, spatulas, spoons and rocks,. “The heat from these tools is expected to melt the fat on the breast, and stop it from projecting.Most people prefer to wrap very tight elastic bandages around the chest of their daughters overnight, but that system usually keeps the girls very uncomfortable,” she said. “For my daughters, I used hot coconut shells or heated stones to flatten their breasts.”

One Cameroonian mother, who recently began breast ironing on her daughter, told me in Ikom, where she came to buy goods, that she was carrying out the practice in an attempt to make her child less attractive to Boko Haram members who have been abducting adolescent girls and forcing them into marriage.

“I live in Tiko in the southwest but my daughter schools in Maroua in the far north where terrible things happen, and I won’t take chances,” she said. “If they [Boko Haram] don’t see her breast, they won’t think she has come of age.”

Another Cameroonian lady who was in Ikom for trade said she and her sister carried out breast ironing on each of their two daughters, because militants were abducting girls in Maroua where they lived.

“We didn’t want our daughters to be taken to the Sambisa forest,” the lady who gave her name as Agathe said. “It wasn’t just us. Many women did it on their daughters for the same reason.”

 Musa Oumarou another of Cameroon’s hundreds of traders visiting Ikom daily.

 “I visited a compound in Mokolo where every girl had undergone the procedure,” “A woman whose daughter narrowly escaped Boko Haram capture started the procedure on her lucky child and then convinced her neighbors to carry out the same act on their daughters.”

The United Nations says breast ironing now affects 3.8 million women around the world. While the U.S. human rights report suggested reports of the practice are “rare,” the local press in Cameroon has reported that up to 50 percent of girls undergo the very painful procedure on a daily basis.

Analysts say breast ironing was initially done by women with the thought of improving a mother’s breast milk. But the thought later changed when rape and teenage pregnancy became rampant. Mothers began to carry out the procedure on their girls as they believed that their daughters’ breasts would expose them to the risk of sexual harassment and early pregnancies.

Reba said: 'At first my family thought that what we were doing was not right. They didn't think it was proper for me to be with a man that was already married. 'But they started to come around and now they're happy as they know I am happy.
Having to share him with another woman can be kind of upsetting at times.
'But I try not to get jealous and when it's not my time with Thom I just try to occupy myself by going out friends.
'The baby will have two moms which I'm okay with.'

Mrs Miller said: 'We kind of make jokes about the baby and where he or she will sleep because we've got two separate master suites - in case mommy Reba needs a break then mommy Belinda can have the baby for the night.'

'I'm definitely excited there's going to be a little human part of us, part of the family,' Rev. Miller added.
The couple got close to Ms Kerfoot while volunteering at a soup kitchen and she moved in with them shortly after.

Rev. Miller was a friend of Ms Kerfoot's family and knew her when she was younger but claims he was surprised when they met again and she had become a woman. Rev. Miller added: 'I've known Reba for a long time, then she moved away and I hadn't seen her for years.

'I caught something because she hugged me and I wanted to keep hugging her and I realised, wow, I'm really appreciating this woman.' The pair married at Thom's church just seven years after he had the exact same ceremony with Belinda.

Policemen in Ogun State Arrested Suspected Human Traffickers With 26 Children

Ogun state policemen said it arrested three suspected human traffickers with 26 children yesterday.

The commissioner of police in the state, Abdulmajid Ali, made this known to journalists in Abeokuta.

Mr. Ali said the suspects, identified as Zainab Ahmed (18), Aisha Abdulahi (55) and Zuliat Abdulmalik (45), were arrested on Sunday at a motor park at Ibafo in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

He said the arrest followed a tip-off from some residents of Ibafo while the suspects were trying to transport the victims to Lagos.

“Our attention was called by some people living around the motor park on Sunday that some underage persons were seen at the park.“Our men left immediately and rounded them up, the children look innocent and we cannot leave anything to chance.

.“We need to investigate very well to avoid unpleasant situation, particularly now that we have been alerted of threats of insurgency.“We need to carry out due diligence to ensure that they are not intended to be used as suicide bombers”, he said.

According to the commissioner, the victims comprised 25 girls and one boy whose ages range between eight and 10.Mr. Ali said the suspects claimed they were taking the children to Lagos for menial jobs.

He, however, said that investigations had commenced into the matter and that the suspects would be arraigned soon.
